Arnica and our ancestors
Arnica is a well-known herb around the world used topically to treat aches, pains, sprains, and bruises. Hildegard of Bingen was one of the first to recommend arnica for wounds and burn injuries. The first clear records date back to the early 16th century, as a popular German folk remedy. It was used to treat blunt injuries, bruising, inflammation, and skin lesions. Even Shakespeare and Goethe, appreciated the benefits of arnica. Goethe used it for its cardiovascular properties. Arnica was also used by some Native American tribes for its healing benefits as a herbal remedy.
Uses of Arnica
Arnica is frequently used in tinctures and topical treatments for skin healing in eczema, wounds, and burns. Oral homeopathic remedies are used for trauma, muscle aches and pains, concussions, and cardiovascular issues. Studies show arnica is an anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent in preventing bruising. It is loved by many people for these problems and is a common product to keep in your home remedy kit.
